CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Maine — The American Civil Liberties Union of Maine (ACLU) has filed a habeas corpus petition on behalf of a Maine resident the organization claims is being held by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) unlawfully. According to the ACLU, Maine resident Eyidi Ambila, 44, has been held in ICE detention at Cumberland County Jail since late September. The organization claims the ongoing detention violates his constitutional right to due process.

YORK, Maine — A woman is hospitalized after drowning at Long Sands Beach in York Saturday afternoon, according to York Police Sgt. Jonathan Rogers. A 20-year-old woman was swimming with friends in the area of 123 Long Beach Avenue at the time of the incident around 3:30 p.m., Rogers said. A man walking down the beach, who happened to have medical training, was able to revive her, according to Rogers. The woman, whose name has not been released, was transported to York Hospital for treatment.
