The 10-year-old grandson of a woman killed in 2023, in what Broken Arrow police called a murder-suicide, has been identified as a victim of what investigators believe to be another murder-suicide in Broken Arrow. Officers were serving a search warrant around 4:20 p.m. Wednesday to a home in the 100 block of West Roanoke Street, related to the recently reported disappearance of 20-year-old Alyssa Shippy, police said.

Oklahoma homeowners’ insurance rates are high, perhaps the highest in the nation. A recent Wall Street Journal article, relying heavily on input from Oklahoma Insurance Department Commissioner Glen Mulready, said hail damage explains the elevated rates. But the data that would be used to blame hail show the opposite: Oklahoma has had less hail than states with lower rates.

A 10-by-20-foot hole under the concrete spillway near the top of the Lake Waxhoma Dam has re-emerged amid heavy rainfall Wednesday after efforts to patch the hole in 2021 appear to have failed. Officials began pumping water from Lake Waxhoma starting around 11 a.m. Wednesday, according to Jerry Roberts, Osage County Emergency Management director, with the ongoing storms complicating efforts. Areas of Osage County have received 4-5½ inches of rain in just two days, according to Oklahoma Mesonet.
