As a lifelong Charlestonian and former Charleston County Council vice chair representing James Island, Ravenel, Adams Run, Johns Island, Yonges Island, Edisto and Wadmalaw, I have always been a huge supporter of our rural communities, and supported protections for our settlement communities. That is why I am asking Charleston County voters to vote "yes" to the continuation of the transportation sale tax. Voting yes means increasing safety and reducing traffic.

At the end of August, Svenska Spel will report the proportion of healthy revenues for the second quarter of 2024, April-June. The figure will then be included in the group’s regular interim reporting.

Five construction workers were injured when a deck collapsed at a construction site Monday. The five people were taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after the back deck collapsed at a new construction site in the 4100 block of Rockingham Drive, near North Hills. Eighteen firefighters responded to the scene, according to Jamie Cheveralls, spokesperson for the Raleigh Fire Department.

Wake County leaders are increasing the property tax rate in the county manager’s recommended budget to provide $58.3 million in additional local funding to the Wake County Public School System. But that falls short of the $63.2 million in additional funding that school board leaders said they needed.
