FREEPORT, Ill. (WIFR) - Flaggers will direct traffic in the area during construction, and drivers may experience delays. From May 15-16, storm inlet repairs in front of the Mobil gas station will close the Read Park entrance on Moseley Street. The rest of Moseley Street will remain open. Residents in the area can access driveways, but may experience delays. At the end of each day, construction areas will reopen. Travelers are reminded to pay attention to signs and give crews space.

BYRON, Ill. (WIFR) - The city searches for a new City Administrator after Brian Brooks announces his plans to retire later this summer. Brooks has been in the position since Jan. 2023 and was also the city’s first administrator in the 1900’s. In 2000, he took a job in the private sector, working for a national developer of multifamily affordable housing.

(WIFR) - A multi-year contract for frontline workers in Illinois raises wages and reopens negotiations on benefits. The Health Care Council of Illinois, the Illinois Association of Health Care Facilities and the Service Employees International Union negotiated and agreed on the new contract. The contract extends through Aug. 31, 2029 and includes the following:Reestablishes a cooperative relationship for contract negotiations with the IAHCF.

WINNEBAGO COUNTY, Ill. (WIFR) - On Thursday, May 15, construction on U.S. 20 in Winnebago County will begin from Pecatonica Road to Falconer Road near Rockford. Work will include the milling and resurfacing of the road. Daily lane closures controlled by flaggers will be in place along the nearly 8-mile work zone throughout the project. Drivers should expect delays, allow extra time for trips through this area and use alternate routes to avoid the work zone when feasible.
