Asked about the program’s progress on the recruiting trail in early November, Sawvel answered the question with hopeful optimism. It was the kind of hope buoyed by the knowledge that the Cowboys were on the verge of turning over potentially 60 percent of its roster in a matter of months.

LARAMIE — Reunited and it feels so good. Wyoming men's basketball coach Sundance Wicks hired former Missouri Western colleague Will Martin as an assistant coach on Saturday. Martin and Wicks coached together for two seasons before Wicks joined Jeff Linder's staff in Laramie. Martin remained at Missouri Western where he was elevated to the head coaching position in 2020. In five years as the Griffons head coach, Martin compiled a 77-70 record.

LARAMIE — After eight practices of coaching their players through every period of practice, the Wyoming staff will take the training wheels off on Saturday. It’s go time. The Cowboys will conduct their first live scrimmage of the spring for approximately two hours. UW head coach Jay Sawvel equates it to swimming lessons. “The first part of spring practice is like when you had little kids and you get in the swim classes with them,” he said.
