JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT/(Gray News) - A young man will be spending multiple years behind bars after pleading guilty to killing a woman in a drunk driving crash. Rankin County District Attorney Bubba Bramlett announced this week that Colby James Tackett pleaded guilty to aggravated driving under the influence resulting in the death of Beverly Luckett, a 62-year-old nurse. Tackett received the maximum sentence of 15 years in prison with 10 years suspended under supervised probation.

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT/Gray News) - For 172 days, Bettersten Wade left no stone unturned in searching for her 37-year-old son. She asked neighbors, searched abandoned houses, called detectives and posted messages on social media begging him to come home. Dexter Wade would never see those messages. He was killed on the night of March 5 after being struck by an off-duty police officer driving along I-55 south, officials said.

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Pay raises could be on tap for the Jackson Police Department next year, as Interim Chief Joseph Wade works to rebuild the department’s ranks. This week, Wade presented the city council with his budget request for the 2023-24 fiscal year. The request includes approximately $3 million in new spending, including hundreds of thousands of dollars to give raises to sworn officers, detention officers and dispatchers.

BYRAM, Miss. (WLBT/Gray News) - A 1-year-old child has died months after being found unconscious in a swimming pool at a Mississippi day care. The Byram Police Department confirmed the victim died on April 28 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Police Chief David Errington said the child had been on life support since October after he accidentally fell into a swimming pool at the Little Blessings from Heaven Childcare Center and Christian Academy.
