NEWNAN, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Just two years ago, Greenbrier girls soccer team went into the state championship game as the first team from Columbia County to ever make it there. In Newnan on Thursday night, they had a chance to make it there a second time, but they fell just short to Northgate High School, 3-1 in the final four. Greenbrier and Northgate entered this game having only given up one goal each in the playoffs so far.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Twenty years since the program’s last state title, ARC’s boys’ soccer team fell just short in round two of the GHSA Playoffs. After a 30-minute lightning delay paused the game early on, the Musketeers broke the silence against Chastatee with just five minutes left in the first half. That lead would be short-lived as the War Eagles would go on to tie the game in the second half, ultimately leading to extra time.

HARLEM, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - On the verge of elimination, Harlem Baseball responded in the best way possible. Thursday night, the Bulldogs grabbed the first game (6-0) of their round two matchup against Whitewater, but then, the unthinkable happened in game two. Whitewater edged out Harlem (2-1) in the second matchup, snapping the Bulldogs’ 44-game win streak that dated back to April 9 of last year.

This academic year, the GHSA is using a power ratings, which includes the use of a math model that ranks teams based on game scores. It helps seed playoff teams from A Division I to 3A. But it isn’t fool proof, we saw that with girls basketball this season. And in Burke County, it felt like it struck again.

The back-to-back 3A state champs cruised through the regular season and now just sit a playoff run away from the school’s second-ever 3-peat. Being three-time defending champs isn’t new territory for Harlem’s varsity baseball team. However, if this year’s team is able to pull off the school’s second-ever 3-peat, it may go down as one of the best three-year stretches of any team ever.
