Kathmandu, Sept. 21 -- It's a well-known fact that traffic jams are a perennial problem in Kathmandu Valley. What makes them worse for commuters is public vehicles stopping for passengers every now and then. These are among the reasons why people who can afford it try to avoid using public vehicles and prefer private ones. In a bid to promote public transport by making the means fast, the government has started an 'express bus' service from Ratnapark to Suryabinayak in Bhaktapur.

After assurance from Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers for solving the garbage problem in Banchare Danda through the formation of a separate, independent entity, the Banchare Danda Landfill Affected Area Concern Committee and local residents have postponed their strike of obstructing garbage disposal till October 7. The Prime Minister’s office on September 12 had sent a letter requesting the committee to postpone its protest.
