The Farm Ministry in Dayton often delivers meat and cheese to people in need, but they have recently partnered with Broadway-based Neff Lumber Mills to provide other materials for victims of last year’s Appalachian floods to rebuild their homes and farms. According to Keith Turner, president of The Farm Ministry, the nonprofit started working with Neff Lumber Mills soon after the Hurricane Helene floods when people needed dry firewood.

TIMBERVILLE — Virginia Department of Transportation representatives held the first of three planned public meetings to introduce locals to the Shenandoah Rail Trail project — and get feedback on which of two possible forms it should take. Along the old Manassas Gap railroad, the trail will stretch 49 miles from the Broadway-Timberville area to Front Royal in Warren County. Norfolk Southern owns the inactive railroad corridor, so the state must buy it from the company.

An hour after an open skate session filled with happy children finished at Funky’s Skate Center in Harrisonburg, the room was prepared for battle. Helpers laid down black tape to mark the boundaries of the circular track where, soon, skaters would be blocking, bumping, and shoving each other aside. Players slid into their room on skates with wheels of highlighter yellow, neon orange and pale blue.

MOUNT JACKSON — Kenna Fansler said the history of Mount Jackson “doesn’t have any highlights.”“We’re just a small, rural town,” he said. But his museum says otherwise. The small museum inside the town hall building beside the library is packed with Civil War artifacts, local art, old photos and more. There is a nightgown from the 1800s and a wooden chest from the 1700s, way back when Mount Jackson was founded.
