Maybe part of it was that the Bruins and new coach Joanna Hayes fancied their teams as having a fighting chance to win one of, if not both the men’s and women’s battles.

AUSTIN, TEXAS, May 01–03 — When Harlan (San Antonio) junior Tate Taylor shifted into hypersonic speed in the final 30m of the Class 6A 100 at the Texas state meet, leaving Duncanville’s Brayden Williams in his wake, there was a feeling he had just hit a gear no previous high school athlete ever had. There was a feeling he had just won the greatest high school 100 ever. After a few moments filled with anticipation, the biggest of dreams were confirmed in full.

SHAOXING, CHINA, May 03 — The Diamond League’s second 2025 stop saw Americans win four of the seven women’s events with star throwers leading the way. Valarie Allman dominated the discus (a non-Diamond League event) with the best 3 throws of the evening, topped by a 229-11 (70.08) in the fifth round, well ahead of the 217-3 (66.22) of Jorinde van Klinken of the Netherlands.

SHAOXING, CHINA, May 03 — The 2-meet Chinese leg of the Diamond League concluded with an impressive hurdles win by Cordell Tinch, who shot up the all-time list, and the usual vault heroics by Mondo Duplantis. The Yangtze River Delta Athletics Diamond Gala was held this year in Shaxoing while the stadium in Shanghai, the nominal host of the meet, undergoes renovation.
