    Cases of whooping cough across the state have more than doubled compared to this time last year. Between January and March of this year, there have been at least 106 cases identified in North Carolina, according to new numbers from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services provided to WRAL. In the first three months of 2024, there were 40 cases reported, according to NCDHHS data. Whooping cough, also known as pertussis, tends to spike in cycles.
