The Social Security Fairness Act passed the Senate 76-20, after passing the House 327-75-1 in November. All of Ohio’s congressional delegation voted for it, except for Vice-President elect U.S. Sen. JD Vance (R-OH), who didn’t vote. Vance and outgoing Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) were signed on as sponsors of the bill. For Brown, its approval was a bittersweet victory, since he had fought for and sponsored it for more than two decades.

But there was some opposition to that bipartisan bill. Private investigators wanted a carve out in Senate Bill 100 to ensure they could still use tracking devices. Investigator and retired Army Major Theodore Owens said he’s built cases for crime victims and against human traffickers using tracking devices. “We are not spying on anyone, okay? We are not stalking by proxy. This device is only a tool that we utilize to help us,” Owens told a House committee in November.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (Statehouse News Bureau) — Ohio is no longer in extreme drought as rain over the last few months have relieved dry areas. But that doesn’t mean the damage from the historic drought is repaired. In September, nearly 40% of the state was in exceptional or extreme drought, and 22 counties were declared federal disaster areas.
