Clackamas County struck a deal with its largest employee union Friday, just days before union employees had said they would hit the picket line. The labor agreement ends a roughly 14-month gauntlet of negotiations over a new union contract, Clackamas County Employee Association President Alex Gonzalez said. The union represents over 1,300 of the county’s approximately 2,500 employees. “Members are proud that we put up a fight,” Gonzalez said.

After months of failed negotiations, Clackamas County’s largest employee union has given county officials 10 days to come to an agreement on a new contract. If not, employees will hit the picket line. The Clackamas County Employee Association, which represents over 1,300 employees, officially notified the county of their intent to strike Friday morning. It’s the first time the union has motioned to strike, the union’s president, Alex Gonzalez, told The Oregonian/OregonLive.
