HAMDEN - The town's proposed tax rate for the next fiscal year should be slightly lower than initially reported, Mayor Lauren Garrett said this week, following the discovery of a budgeting error. In a Facebook post, Garrett said the revised tax rate is 43.39 mills, or 3.22 mills lower than the number she presented to the Legislative Council as part of her proposed $313 million budget for fiscal year 2026. The new rate is aroughly 12-mill decrease over the current year.

As of Friday evening, five people, including incumbent Mayor Lauren Garrett, have declared their intention to seek the mayor's seat, and a sixth person, former Board of Education chair Adam Sendroff, a Democrat, also said he is "seriously considering" a run.
