    MERIDEN - The end of federal emergency management program funding has forced the city to scramble to find ways to continue its downtown flood control projects. The recent federal cutbacks to disaster prevention and mitigation is part of $300 million in reductions to state health and emergency programs, Gov. Ned Lamont said Thursday.     MERIDEN - City official s met behind closed doors Monday to discuss the settlement of a four-year-old police brutality lawsuit naming four officers in the police department's crime suppression unit. The 10 city councilors who attended the executive session voted 10-0 to accept the settlement, according to meeting minutes. City officials would not comment on the agreement. The federal lawsuit stems from the 2018 arrest of Chazantine Griffin near the intersection of Roy and Crown streets.

    MERIDEN -Mayor Kevin Scarpati recently used his tie-breaking power to effectively kill two votes that would have started the center renovation on West Main Street, while protecting the city's authority to pursue a new build at 116 Cook Ave. Scarpati broke a 6-6 tie to vote against a Finance Committee recommendation to develop plans for 22-28 W. Main St. He also broke a 6-6 tie on a Health and Human Services Committee recommendation to reject the renovation.
