He is now handing off the baton to Tom Llamas. AUSTIN (KXAN) - Texas Health and Human Services is recruiting volunteers for its Foster Grandparent program, which connects older Texans with children in need of one-on-one emotional support, mentoring and tutoring. According to Texas Health and Human Services, it currently has about 300 volunteers - aged 55 and older - acting as role models, mentors and friends. To note, becoming a Foster Grandparent volunteer is not the same as foster parenting, and the children do not live with volunteers.

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Over the next few weeks, high school graduates will soon be celebrated all over Central Texas for their accomplishments. However, graduation season can be a scary time for hundreds of kids who are aging out of the Texas foster care system. Just last year, nearly 900 kids turned 18 and aged out of the system facing, in some cases, an abrupt independence without the safety nets most young people rely on.
