News-Tribune, June 7, 1925Duluthian Robert W. Williams, a former valet to President Grover Cleveland who once sang with Madam Louise Homer, died at the Lighthouse for the Blind at 54. Williams was born in 1871 to a formerly enslaved mother. After losing his sight, he spent the last eight years of his life earning a living by weaving baskets.

News-Tribune, June 6, 1925A small twister caused more than $500 in damage at the St. Louis County poor farm, and for a time threatened destruction of the two-story farm house, A.P. Cook, clerk of the poor commission, said. The twister started near Arlington Avenue and worked toward the farm, picking up a 2-ton hay loader and carrying it more than 100 feet. Superintendent Chris Jensen, his family, and eight employees were asleep in the farmhouse at the time.

It contains 18,350 buildings, of which 14,009, or 76%, are single-family homes. News-Tribune, June 5, 1955The last Duluth, South Shore and Atlantic passenger train pulled out of the Twin Ports last week, bound for Marquette, Michigan. The line has been discontinued due to heavy revenue losses caused by a lack of passengers.

News-Tribune, June 4, 1925Two youths boldly seized an automobile within 100 feet of police headquarters in Duluth, evaded a pursuing squad and escaped after a five-mile chase. The thieves abandoned the car at the end of the Woodland Avenue trolley line and dashed into the woods as officers fired into the air. The car was returned undamaged, and no arrests have been made.
