KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - The main line of strong to severe storms will arrive this evening and continue across east TN and southeast KY through midnight. MAIN RISK: Significant straight-line damaging wind, especially on the Cumberland Plateau associated with a big line of storms. SPC has our western counties in a high risk for damaging straight-line wind which doesn’t happen often. SECONDARY RISK: A spin-up tornado along the main line along with small hail.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -The low level southwesterly flow is keeping east Tennessee and southeast Kentucky well supplied with sufficient heat and humidity for the development of showers and thunderstorms today. Those thunderstorms may become strong over the higher terrain along the North Carolina border. We have already seen some rather strong storms form over the Smoky Mountains in this southerly flow pattern.
