Share KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - No, that wasn’t Styrofoam that you saw on the side of the road Wednesday morning. Tens of thousands of frost flowers formed on what was then the coldest morning of the season. These frost flowers typically happen for each grass stem only once per season. And as we head to delay the first freeze, and this was the coldest day of the season, they were everywhere. Here’s how it works: think of a pasta machine or your kids Play-Doh toys.

ShareKNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Rosy sunrises and sunsets are the first sign of a stretched-out Francine impacting us here in Tennessee and Kentucky. For now the winds are calm and the low humidity feels amazing. Rain returns in a thin and line band on Thursday afternoon. The better promise for more Francine-caused rain is Friday evening and into Saturday. We are slightly cooler and slightly drier after that.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - We are nearly at the end of a prolonged rainy pattern; so far we have nine days in a row but Friday and Saturday should be quite a bit drier. More rain is back late Sunday night and through next Tuesday. All of this rain should eventually knock down our flash drought – but it has not happened fully quite yet. No surprise there! We also make a return to the lower 90s by the end of next week.
