SAN ANTONIO – UPDATE – San Antonio police suspension records indicate the man later died of his injuries. An SAPD incident report has identified the shooting victim as Xavier Jason Skelton. ORIGINAL STORY – A man is in the hospital in critical condition after being shot on the city’s North Side early Thursday morning, according to San Antonio police. The shooting happened just before 3 a.m. in the 5300 block of Blanco Road, not far from Jackson Keller Road and San Pedro Avenue.

RACELAND Raceland relied on keen shooting from 3-point range to top Fairview on Friday night, 78-31. The Rams hit 10 first-half triples and 14 overall en route to the big win. Connor Thacker led Raceland in scoring with 20 points. Jacob Waller and Jonah Arnett paced a strong first quarter for the Rams. Both tallied nine points and went 3 for 3 from distance to put Raceland ahead 29-12 after one. Arnett would finish with 15 total points, and Waller chipped in 12.

When Scott Tackett took the Lewis County boys basketball head coach position following the retirement of Joe Hampton, he knew at the time that his group of eighth-graders would be special down the road. “I moved five eighth-graders up so I could have them in the gym with me because I could tell early on they were talented and I just wanted to make sure we could develop them the best way that we could,” Tackett said.

Coaches always want to see their team playing their best at the end of the season before tournament time, and of course, want to see their team improving each game. For the Ironton basketball program, that has been a constant under Chris Barnes. Barnes and the Tigers went 17-8 overall last year, with a 10-4 record in the Ohio Valley Conference. Ironton had their longest win streak of the season (six games) before closing out the year with a loss to North Adams in the playoffs.
