SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Bexar County will have a new district attorney sooner than later. Joe Gonzales announced he will not be seeking reelection in 2026. A Democrat, Gonzales has served as the county’s top prosecutor since 2019. In a deep-red state like Texas, Gonzales was one of several DA’s around the nation who said they would not prosecute women who try to get abortions. This was particularly controversial in the Lone Star State given the direction taken after the overturning of Roe v. Wade.

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A man from Honduras now has a sentence of 96 months in prison after he was sentenced in federal court for assaulting a U.S. Border Patrol agent while trying to enter the United States illegally. According to court documents, Trinidad De Jesus Madrid-Rivas, and another illegal alien tried to run from two U.S. Border Patrol agents south of Spofford on August 17, 2024.

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The 100 Deadliest Days are here, and the numbers are sobering. According to AAA, around 30% of all fatal crashes involving a teen in Texas between 2019-2023 happened between Memorial Day and Labor Day. In other words, summertime is the most dangerous time on the road for those with limited driving experience. On average, eight people are killed per day in teen-involved driving crashes in the summer, compared to seven per day during the rest of the year.

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — As the investigation into the shooting death of actor Jonathan Joss continues, the San Antonio Police Department is giving an update. Police Chief William McManus opened a Thursday press conference by saying the department’s statement saying Joss’ murder had nothing to do with the actor’s sexual orientation was a mistake. Without going into further specifics, this could indicate new evidence has been found that points to a possible hate crime.

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The man accused of shooting and killing actor Jonathan Joss is now out of jail. According to KENS 5, Sigfredo Alvarez, 56, posted bond that was set at $200,000. He was being held at the Bexar County Jail. Alvarez was arrested and charged with murder after the Sunday night shooting on the South Side.
