    The Castlegar News recently received copies of two old print editions in the mail from someone cleaning out a grandparent's storage space. They were published July 24 and July 31 of 1975. These papers happened to be the week before and the week after what was then known as Sunflower Fest. The 100,000-sq.-ft. facility takes the Kalesnikoff mass timber vision one step further by adding new products to be used for prefabricated walls, flooring, modules, and full modular construction for projects that include student and workforce housing, prefabricated housing, infrastructure, and commercial buildings.

    Ground work has begun at a new affordable housing complex in downtown Castlegar. The project is funded by BC Housing with Castlegar Community Services (CCS) serving as the program operator and property manager. It will feature 27 units of housing specifically for women and children. The three-storey compex will include a combination of studio, one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom suites.

    Students at Castlegar's Stanley Humphries Secondary School are participating in this year's Relay for Life and they need community support to help reach their fundraising goals. The relay supports the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS). The society says the event is more than a cancer fundraiser – it’s a chance to send a powerful message of solidarity to your community. It is a way to celebrate cancer survivors and remember those that we have lost to this terrible disease.

    Kootenay Family Place hosted a Teddy Bear Picnic at Kinsman Park on May 28. The event featured, games, snacks, activities, crafts and more for kids six and under. One of the highlights of the day was a visit from the Castlegar Fire Department who brought their vehicles for the kids to explore.
