Police in the Elk Valley are urging residents to use extra caution following a dangerous wildlife encounter in West Fernie. Police were called Friday afternoon after a woman was riding her bike along the Elk River dike trail near MacDonald Avenue what what she believed to be a grizzly bear knocked her off her bike. RCMP and BC Conservation Officers searched the area in an effort to locate the bear involved in the collision. The woman was uninjured in the incident.

The City of Fernie says a water quality advisory that has been in place since July 20 is still in effect. The city provided an update on water conditions this morning, saying regional drought conditions and high residential water use over the summer has forced a switch from the city’s secondary source James White Wells to the Fairy Creek Source.
