Brick never goes out of fashion, as this sleek, geometric Toronto townhouse by Kohn Shnier Architects attests. Seventeen years after it was built, the Trinity Bellwoods home still cuts a striking figure—a modern riposte to the surrounding Victorian streetscape. Known as Richmond House for the street it sits on, the property’s boxy lower levels are built in rich red brick, punctuated by slit and floor-to-ceiling windows and vertical timber louvres.

A preserved Cold War bunker will go under the hammer on 8 May in the Norfolk village of Dersingham, with a guide price of £20,000. And this rare structure may attract more than just military history enthusiasts. Known as the Dersingham Royal Observer Corps (ROC) Post, the subterranean structure was built in 1957 as part of a network of observation posts across the UK, forming an early detection system in the event of a nuclear attack.

Perching on the cliffs of Cornwall’s Roseland Peninsula, this former boathouse dates back to the 17th century and dips its toes in the water. It was originally the accommodation for the harbour’s Chief Boatman, perching proudly above its own slipway, overlooking Veryan Bay.

The 42 sqm beach shack is located on Banks Peninsula and was a favourite painting spot for Hammond, who passed away in 2021 aged 74, and his wife.

Beyond the 49th parallel, Canadian modernist architect Ron Thom remains something of a discovery for mid-century aficionados, but in and around Vancouver, his residential designs are a hot—and relatively rare—commodity. That’s why his newly listed 1960 stunner, Dodek House, is causing a stir. Dodek House, also known as 6821 Laurel St, is named for Mort and Irene Dodek, who commissioned the property in the late 1950s.
