WEST CHESTER — In light of the recent shuttering of Delaware County hospitals, Crozer-Chester Medical Center and Taylor Hospital, new Penn Medicine Chester County Hospital CEO Karen Pinsky, MD, said that the West Chester hospital will grow even faster than already planned. Pinsky took over the top job at CCH on March 25 after serving as interim CEO since July 2024.

WEST CHESTER–The May 20 primary will feature four races for West Chester Borough Council in four wards—the 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th wards. On the Democratic ticket, Jerry Szczepaniak is running unopposed in the 1st Ward. Brian McGinnis is running to retain his seat unopposed in the 3rd Ward and Stephen Marvin is running with no competition in the 5th Ward. Two Democrats seek the 7th Ward nod, Lisa Bryan-Conrfronti and Lisa Kearns.

COATESVILLE — The Pennsylvania Special Olympics celebrated its 55th year Friday, with events in both Coatesville and Downingtown stadiums. The friendly Coatesville competition, at Coatesville Memorial Stadium, home of Red Raiders Football, attracted over 1,000 athletes and 400 volunteers. All 12 Chester County Intermediate Unit District schools, both public and private schools, participated in Coatesville.

WEST CHESTER—About 2,000 peaceful demonstrators again met at the historic courthouse and this time they sent a loud May Day message to President Donald Trump in support of workers. The rally was held on Thursday, May Day, or International Workers Day. Several speakers spoke in favor of worker’s rights and unions, while state Rep. Chris Pielli welcomed rowdy protestors “to the revolution.”Master of Ceremonies and Mayor of Downingtown Phil Dague was fired up prior to the rally.

PAOLI — More than two dozen politicians and other officials denounced planned budget cuts to SEPTA and lobbied state legislators to fully and sustainably fund the public transit system, during Wednesday morning’s press conference, at the Paoli Train Station. COATESVILLE—The city and Caln Township are getting some new water pipes. The new pipes are replacing ones that have been in the ground for more than 100 years. Pennsylvania American Water is replacing 21 miles of water main stretching from Caln Township, Chester County, to Quarryville, Lancaster County. The $35 million project has been underway for about a decade and is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.

WEST CHESTER—Students, staff and teachers were safely evacuated, with no injuries, at Henderson High School, Tuesday afternoon. West Chester Police received a phone call from a school student resource officer at 1:15 p.m. that smoke was smelled in the second floor. An evacuation was underway when police first arrived on the scene. The cause of the smoke was attributed to an air handler and the issue was turned over to the school district maintenance department to fix the problem.
