A Muncie resident was devastated last October when she went to her ultrasound at nine weeks pregnant. Even though she had all the symptoms of pregnancy, she had suffered a missed miscarriage, a condition where the fetus has died but the mother's body fails to dispel the fetal tissue. The woman's IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital doctor gave her misoprostol, a medication that causes the uterus to contract and softens the cervix. The drug is often used in situations such as this one.
