Light and tasty in Cellar Talk Tohu Awatere Valley Pinot Noir 2022, Marlborough, NZD $25Tohu has vineyards in the Awatere and Moutere, representing Wakatū’s holdings in Marlborough and Nelson. They are (as part of Kono) the only iwi-owned wine producer in the world as its stakeholders are the members of the four iwi who make up Wakatū. Awatere pinot noir is quite distinct, often with a more delicate and herb-tinged perfume from the cooler mesoclimate of the valley.

Off-dry delight in Cellar Talk Mount Difficulty Roaring Meg Riesling 2023, Central Otago, NZD $23 Riesling has always been a Central Otago stalwart, even though it has lost ground over the years (as it has almost everywhere outside of Germany and Alsace). The very cool climate’s tangy acidity lends itself to the variety particularly well, across all levels of sweetness. The most common is off-dry and this second label wine from Mt Difficulty shows how at ease the variety is here.
