Roxanne DesRoches says horticultural and historical specialists are part of the group. They’re looking at putting flowers in green spaces, for example; and the maintenance of assets like the Lake Commando Boardwalk. DesRoches wants community engagement in the process. “We want everybody to be proud of their town, just as we are proud of our town, and to take action,” she says.

The official 50th anniversary of the Iroquois Falls Public Library building is May 1st. But it will be closed, while new flooring and shelves are installed.. Assistant librarian Haley Montreuil says the closure runs from April 28th until May 20th. “Any books taken out between now and the 28th or any books renewed will be due on the 20th of May when we reopen,” she advises. “No fines will be accrued during the closure.”The limit on the number of books borrowed by an adult will be waived.

Lunchtime sessions on how you as an employer can take advantage of two programs are being offered in six communities across Cochrane and Timiskaming Districts next week. The federal government-supported programs are the Regional Rural and Francophone Immigration pilot projects. They’re facilitated by Madison Mizzau at the Timmins Economic Development Corporation.

Leading up to the federal election, our news department has offered the candidates for Kapuskasing-Timmins-Mushkegowuk a chance to be heard on our newscasts. We sent them a questionnaire, offering to put the responses on our websites and let them talk about a couple them on-air. First up is New Democrat Nicole Fortier Levesque. She says U.S. tariffs are a direct attack on Canada’s economy and workers, and provinces, territories and federal parties must be united to protect jobs and industries.
