TIMMINS - A local construction business has picked up $9.8 million in work that will see kilometres of roads upgraded in the coming years. Miller Paving Limited was awarded two construction contracts on Tuesday — a $9.3 million, three-year paving contract and a one-year $550,000 for surface treatments. “It’s really something special to get some work done on Legion Drive. I know the residents will be thrilled and I’m very appreciative and grateful for that work being done,” said Coun.

TIMMINS - While Schumacher Lions Club is celebrating nine decades of giving back this year, it's their work at local park that's garnering attention for a civic award. The Schumacher Lions Club was given the Heart of Gold Civic Award. It was handed out by Mayor Michelle Boileau at the McIntyre Community Building during the ceremony to designate it as a heritage facility.

TIMMINS - There's a new deputy fire chief in town. Scott Foster has been appointed to the leadership position at the Timmins Fire Department. Timmins Mayor Michelle Boileau congratulated Foster on the promotion after it was approved by council on Tuesday. Foster is currently the chief training officer. The deputy chief position has been open since April, after Scott Atkinson was promoted to chief when Berny Stansa retired.

TIMMINS - Nearly $337,000 in unpaid fines have been written off. At its May 27 meeting, Timmins council approved writing off $336,919 in unpaid Provincial Offence Act (POA) fines that are 10 years in default. It includes 1,055 files. "The Provincial Offences department has a full-time collection agency and all collection methods have been utilized prior to processing the write-offs," wrote director of finance Natalie Moore in her report.
