    PIERRE, S.D. (KELO) — Two spotlights shone from the dome of the South Dakota Capitol on Friday night commemorating a significant event from our nation’s birth. The lights symbolized the two lanterns that hung in Boston’s North Church 250 years ago, signaling that British troops were on the way. The Capitol display was organized by the America’s 250th South Dakota Commission.

(KELO) — The South Dakota Capitol will get some new plaster and paint on the walls this year, followed by restoration of the interior dome next year, in what state officials portray as possible first steps toward a full renovation and restoration of the entire building. Meanwhile, the Governor’s Residence which was built in 2005 will see the first changes to its exterior color scheme. A black roof, gray siding and black trim is replacing the current pale yellow and brown look.

    PIERRE, S.D. (KELO) — Seven federal civilian employees of the U.S. Air Force legally entitled to 15 days of paid military leave were denied that opportunity while serving on active duty with the South Dakota Air National Guard, according to the South Dakota Supreme Court. In an opinion released Thursday, the state’s high court ruled against the South Dakota Department of the Military and its head, Adjutant General Mark Morrell, commander of the South Dakota Air and Army National Guard.
