The Maryville University women’s hockey team cleared a huge hurdle in its climb toward the top, but the Saints ended up one goal short of their ultimate goal.
Maryville, in its fifth season, finally got past the quarterfinals of the Division 1 ACHA National Championship and advanced to the title game before losing 2-1 in double overtime to Liberty on March 21 in St. Louis.

That’s what faces the U.S. Women’s Development Sled Hockey Team this week as they prepare for the 2025 Women’s Sled Series, starting Wednesday (March 26) and concluding Saturday (March 29) at Canada Games Park in Thorold, Ontario.

Like a cactus growing in the desert, the UNLV men’s hockey team showed incredible resiliency during the ACHA Division 1 National Championship.
The Skatin’ Rebels bounced back from 2-0 deficits in quarterfinal and semifinal games against Maryville and Liberty, respectively, to clinch a rematch with Adrian, who beat UNLV 3-0 to win the 2024 national title.
UNLV avenged last year’s loss with a 7-3 win over the Bulldogs on March 18 in St. Louis to clinch the program’s first national championship.

Dale Henry is now doing his best to grow the game in San Antonio following a 21-year professional hockey career that spanned the globe.
Henry is the hockey director at the Ice & Golf Center at Northwoods in San Antonio. The venue has hosted Try Hockey for Free, presented by Discover, events for the last 15 years, and the streak continued with an event on Saturday.
“It gives kids who have never played the game before an opportunity, especially down here in Texas,” Henry said.

Liz Aaron didn’t have to work hard to fill USA Hockey’s Try Hockey for Free, presented by Discover, event in Huntsville, Alabama.
Aaron, the program and operations coordinator for the North Alabama Hockey Association (NAHA), said the Try Hockey for Free event on Saturday at Huntsville Ice Sports Center filled by the beginning of the year.
“It was crazy because I first advertised in December and it was full by the first week of January,” Aaron said.
