SOUTHINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) — It was one year ago in 2024 when Trooper First Class Aaron Pelletier was fatally struck by a car while on duty. On Friday, a police procession brought flashbacks to that night. “He had an infectious smile, and he was a friend to everybody who knew him, but more so than that he cared about doing his job and he cared about keeping the public safe,” Sgt. Luke Davis with Connecticut State Police said.

WETHERSFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) — A mural in Wethersfield is honoring two local heroes who gave their life in the line of duty. Robert “Sharky” Sharkevich and Bobby Garten’s legacies live on in the mural, which is placed in front of the 911 Sports and Community Center in Wethersfield. Sharkevich, a long-time Connecticut firefighter, died in Oct. 2024 while fighting the Hawthorne fire in Berlin; Garten, a police officer, in Sept. 2023 while responding to a call for help.

CONNECTICUT (WTNH) — Crashes have been on the rise this Memorial Day Weekend, according to state police. Accidents range from one in Torrington where two motorcycles collided and both drivers suffered life-threatening injuries to one on the Merritt Parkway in Meriden where there was a multi-car crash with minor injuries. There has been one fatality this year and two serious injuries due to crashes. Overall, there have been fewer accidents than last year. Drivers say that they’ve noticed.
