It’s spring, which means it’s the perfect time to explore the great outdoors and there are so many trails in Oklahoma that I’ve enjoyed over the past year. For me, trail running provides an opportunity to spend time outdoors and enjoy quality time with my sons. However, it offers numerous benefits, including improved physical fitness, enhanced mental well-being, increased endurance, and the opportunity to connect with nature.

A Texas family is seeking answers after their son and his friend were assaulted at a party in Wade, Oklahoma, last Friday. The incident, which took place about 45 minutes from Denison, Texas, was caught on camera. Seventeen-year-old Ayden Hulsey and his friends attended the party, but when they attempted to leave, they asked some people to move their vehicles. Hulsey says the situation quickly escalated, and his friend was attacked.

The Oklahoma City Police Department released body camera footage of a Halloween morning officer-involved shooting that stemmed from a traffic stop. The incident began around 1 a.m. near Southwest 59th Street and May Avenue. Police say Timothy Foster, the suspect, fled during the traffic stop, jumping back into his car and speeding away. During the ensuing chase, officers report that Foster fired at them, prompting one officer to return fire.

Two metro police departments are investigating two separate recent deadly shootings. One happened in Norman the other in Midwest City. Midwest City police say they responded to a shots fired call at Tom Poore Park just after 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Police say they found a 14-year-old had been shot during an argument. They say the teen was taken to the hospital where he died. No other information has been released, and no arrests have been made. Another murder investigation is underway down in Norman.

With Labor Day weekend approaching, safety is top of mind for first responders. Oklahoma City Firefighters say drowning is the leading cause of death for children between one and four years old and the second cause of death for five to 12-year-olds. Still, they say there are things you can do to keep children safe while in the water. OCFD says wearing a life jacket and taking swim lessons are the best ways to stay safe.
