    The City of Norman is honoring a long-time employee who made a huge impact on Norman. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held for the new Bentley Park, located in the Bellatona Neighborhood at 3701 Wiltshire Drive, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17. Bentley Park will be dedicated to the memory of Lionel K. Bentley, a former employee of the City of Norman. Bentley started as an Assistant Park supervisor in 1972, but held various positions with the City, including Director of Parks and Recreation.

    A local nonprofit will raise money for future community programming with an upcoming evening of food, drinks and raffle prizes. The Center for Children and Families will host its fourth annual “Night at the Club,” Friday, Aug. 2 from 7-11 p.m. at Boys and Girls Club of Norman. Adults age 21 and older can attend the interactive event featuring a silent auction, arts, vendors and food provided by local eateries.

    University of Oklahoma students in the aviation program and other students wanting to learn to fly are getting more ways to take to the skies as Semper Fly helicopters opened its doors Wednesday with a ribbon cutting ceremony at Max Westheimer Airport. The new helicopter training program is a first in Norman, and Oklahoma, being the only school in the state that offers students the ability to earn a degree and learn to fly helicopters.

    Norman Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Scott Martin is excited about the future of Norman; and he wants to put that excitement to work to make Norman a destination. As the landscape changes and more amenities and people visit from out of town, Martin says the city is in a great spot to capitalize by capturing those tax dollars. “There are things that I think really highlight the unique areas that Norman has to offer and provides an attraction and a draw,” Martin said.
