I sometimes wonder what I would do if I were a top athlete these days. After reading about how the U.S. national men’s hockey team got booed by Canadian spectators at the 4 Nations Face-Off, I couldn’t help but wonder what I would do if I were in that situation. On one hand, I find it appalling that some would take out their political frustration on a country’s athletes. On the other hand, I don’t exactly blame Canada, either.

Right-wingers who fail to click on and read news articles — opting to scan headlines only — have taken Italy’s Angelina Carini’s forfeit to Algeria’s Imane Khelif as an opportunity to pounce on the question of sexual identity. The two boxers fought each other on Thursday, but after a few hard hits to the head, the Italian boxer decided to duck out, giving the win to her Algerian competitor.

May 17—Norman is desegregated, but not integrated, according to a retired professor from the University of Oklahoma and longtime Norman resident. George Henderson has been recognized by the university and other members of the community as the first African-American to purchase land in Norman, which he did after accepting a job as a faculty member. Before his retirement, he rose to dean of the College of Liberal Studies, and the Henderson Scholars Program is named after him.

Local lawmakers were divided on a bill signed by Gov. Kevin Stitt on Wednesday that will cut the requirement for school districts to include foreign language classes. According to the language of the bill, school districts will still be able to require the arts and foreign languages for graduation, but those decisions will be made locally.
