NEVADA, Mo. — Citizens in Nevada will have to wait another year for the city’s aquatic center to open. In a statement issued Friday, city leaders say that because they are four years behind in completing city audits, financial institutions will not lend them construction start-up money to build the facility. The city says it hasn’t done an annual audit since 2020. The new sales tax, which took effect in January, is bringing in about $36,000 each month.

CARTHAGE, Mo. — A Carthage couple, charged with stealing a quarter-million dollars from an elderly woman, will go to trial. Jasper County Judge Dean Dankelson, on Wednesday, ruled there is enough evidence for prosecutors to proceed with the case against Wendy and Casey Harris. The two are accused of stealing approximately $270,000 from Jane Platt, of Carthage.

KSNF/KODE — A number of area roadways are water-covered this morning after nearly two inches of rain fell in parts of the Joplin area. Drivers on East 20th Street encountered a flooded road on their morning commute. A high water sign was posted at 20th and Prosperity and cones set up in the road, but that didn’t stop drivers from taking their chances going through it. Another area of Joplin that frequently floods is Murphy Blvd. near Dover Elementary School.
