Makers in Missouri bring natural products like dog treats, candles, and baby books. Charles and Kim Saso enjoyed homebrewing together and were looking for a use for the spent grains from their homebrewing sessions, and that is how The Crafted Bone was born. Dog bones are made with the grains left behind after the brewing process is complete.

The Mississippi Lowlands area in far southeastern Missouri is mostly a flat alluvial plain shaped by outwash from the great glaciers. About thirty to fifty million years ago, this region was part of the Mississippi Embayment, similar to today’s delta, emptying to the Gulf of Mexico. The region is now the northernmost reach of the Gulf Coastal Plain and harbors many species characteristic of that region.

James Naismith invented the game of basketball in 1891 as an exercise program for college men, which was soon adapted for college women. But that caused a backlash. Medical professionals, religious leaders, and education experts said basketball was “unhealthy, unladylike, and inappropriate for young ladies.” It was even thought that exercise, like running, would prevent women from bearing children later on.

Nestled in the northeastern corner of our state, just north of Highway 136 and east of Kahoka, this site is the largest and best-preserved remnant of any Illinois Indian village.
