A Niagara paramedic has been awarded the Ontario Medal for Paramedic Bravery after helping a neighbour, who had been stabbed. Niagara Emergency Medical Services paramedic, Derek Langlois, was honoured yesterday by provincial officials for his actions on May 13th 2023. Langlois, a Paramedic Superintendent, was off-duty when he was told his neighbour had been stabbed outside of her home in Grimsby.

Niagara taxpayers can't afford another hefty tax hike. That's the word from Niagara Regional Councillors, who are giving departments 3.5 per cent increase guidance, six months before the budget process is set to begin. Last year, Niagara taxpayers faced a 9.6 per cent increase, and regional staff told councillors at a meeting last week, that it looks like another 10 per cent hike will be needed next year. Fort Erie Mayor, and Budget Chair Wayne Redekop says it will be tough, but its necessary.

Two Niagara MPPs are calling on the Ford government to fund a new water treatment plant in Niagara Falls. Niagara Falls NDP MPP Wayne Gates, and St. Catharines NDP MPP Jennie Stevens, have issued the joint call for the province to fund the South Niagara Wastewater Treatment Plant, which they say is an essential infrastructure project. The two say the government committed to the plan last year, but not a single dollar has been announced yet.

A 29-year-old man working as a trainer and Osteopath in St. Catharines has been re-arrested after police say they found images of 24 more victims on his devices. Police say Nicholas Edward Jackson is facing additional charges of making child pornography, possessing child pornography and 24 counts of voyeurism. Niagara Regional Police first started investigating the suspect, who worked as an independent contractor, out of a rehabilitation clinic in the Martindale area, in November of last year.

Niagara Police say they have arrested a man who is accused of sexually assaulting a young girl he was babysitting in Niagara Falls. Police were called earlier this month to investigate claims that a girl, under the age of 16, was repeatedly sexually assaulting while in the custody of the man between the years of 2014 and last year. Today, 31-year-old Nygel Kovacs of Niagara Falls was arrested and charged with Sexual Assault, Sexual Interference and Invitation to Sexual Touching.
