Saturday is a day to 'Step up for Steve'The Walk to Ends ALS in St. Catharines is being held at the St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre at Lock 3. Dedicated father, and husband, Steven Gallagher passed away from ALS on May 21st. The Niagara resident had become an advocate for ALS patients and their families, after his diagnosis, calling on the government to fund more research and treatments.

The Niagara Falls community is stepping up to help wildfire evacuees. The city is will house thousands of Manitoba residents who are displaced due to the wildfires that continue to spread. Many of the residents are being placed in hotels in the tourist district, with up to 3,000 expected in the coming days. City officials say if local residents want to help they can make a donation to the Canadian Red Cross.

OPP reporting they have arrested 36 men, including eight Niagara residents, in a province-wide child sexual exploitation investigation. 21 police forces, including Niagara Regional Police, took part in the luring investigation from March 31 to April 11, 2025. Investigators utilized undercover techniques to access online chatrooms and social media applications in order to identify, locate and arrest persons looking to sexually exploit children. All arrested are between the ages of 18 and 73.

A 75-year-old St. Catharines man is facing charges after an indecent act in Port Dalhousie. Police were called last night at 7:45 p.m. to Lakeside Park in St. Catharines where witnesses reported a man in the area of the carousel and beach touching himself inappropriately. 75-year-oldĀ Edward Lee Hanson is charged with one count of an indecent act.

Niagara's jobless rate was higher for the month of May. The local unemployment number was 7.1 per cent, compared to 6.8 in April. Meantime, Statistics Canada says job growth has been virtually non-existent in the country since the start of the year. It says Canada's jobless rate rose to 7 per cent in May amid a gain of 8800 jobs in the month. A gain of 58,000 full-time positions was offset by a loss of 49,000 part-time roles. Average hourly wages rose 3.4 per cent annually last month.
