Leon’s Furniture has donated $10,000 to Port Colborne's food bank as the need for donations rises. Port Cares’ Reach Out Centre Food Bank has been struggling to keep up with demand, as more Niagara families reach out for help. Christine Clark Lafleur, CEO of Port Cares, says donations are down about 20 per cent, and this donation is a big help. “More and more vulnerable families are having to rely on charities like Port Cares to get by,” says Clark Lafleur.

Niagara has a new Commissioner of Corporate Services. Tim Ellis, the former CFO for a school board in Lindsay, will be joining the Niagara Region on July 7th. Ellis has over 20 years of experience in financial management and organizational leadership. The Corporate Services Department oversees Legal and Court Services, Procurement Services, the Asset Management Office, Information Technology Solutions, Construction, Energy and Facilities Management, and Financial Management and Planning.

A 30-year-old Thorold man is facing a long list of charges after police say they found drugs and guns inside a home on Keefer Road. Niagara Police started investigating drug trafficking in St. Catharines and Thorold earlier this month, and received a warrant to search a home and car. Yesterday, officers raided both, and say they found 1000 grams of suspected cocaine, with an estimated street value of $100,000.

Niagara Parks will celebrate Seniors Month in Ontario by offering half-price admission next month. During the month of June, seniors aged 60 and over, receive half-price admission across Niagara Parks attractions and Heritage sites on Wednesdays. Seniors must present a valid ID at any Niagara Parks Welcome Centre or at the entrance to any participating attraction or heritage site. The offer is only available for in-person ticket purchases and cannot be applied to online sales.
