With live music, food trucks, ping pong and pickleball, Bloomington officials and residents celebrated the opening of the city’s newest park, Hopewell Commons, Wednesday afternoon. The park, on Second Street between the B-Line Trail/South Morton Street to the east and South Rogers Street to the west, features bench swings, trees, a stage, and will eventually get an arts installation from a Bloomington artist.

The southern brick wall of The Mill, a city-owned building near city hall, is bowing outward and was in danger of collapsing before $100,000 in emergency repairs in the last few days averted disaster. The two-story wall of the 110-year-old building on North Madison Street was bowing outward about 4.5 inches near the middle, said JD Boruff, director of the Bloomington Public Works Department. He said he expects repairs to take about three months and to cost up to $500,000.
