TRUMAN, Minn. — It’s a big decision pondering what to put on one’s gravestone. At age 23, she became the only female bus driver in Truman. Now, at age 80, she’s still behind the wheel of bus #5.

LAKE CITY, Minn. — Traffic jams in Lake City are not common. Unless you’re Jeri Prigge, trying to navigate the start of a school day in any hallway at Bluff View Elementary. “I'll see you in a little bit,” she says, hugging one adoring student as half a dozen others make a beeline toward the school paraprofessional. Soon, Jeri is enveloped in a slow-moving scrum of affectionate grade schoolers. Watching nearby, Marlene Beck, another para, can only smile. “That’s an everyday thing,” she laughs.
