For six innings Wednesday the Cougars’ best stuff was missing, but when it mattered most, they found it. At home, the Cougars erased a 3-1 deficit with a trio of seventh-inning runs to walk-off a 4-3 win against Delta and remain undefeated in the Hoosier Heritage Conference baseball standings.

FORTVILLE — Only five games into the season, Mt. Vernon showed it has the resiliency to bounce back after tough losses. By doing so, they remained perfect in Hoosier Heritage Conference play with a 12-2 five-inning win at home over Shelbyville on Tuesday. “We want to win every game, but conference games are where it really matters,” Mt. Vernon head coach Brad King said.

CHARLOTTESVILLE — After one of the best seasons in school history, Eastern Hancock is looking for even more. A year ago, the Royals saw huge jumps in all of the major events. They improved by 18 shots at the Mid-Eastern Conference tournament and placed third, were fourth at the Hancock County tournament, but improved their team score by 42 shots, and improved by 32 shots to shoot a 336 and place fourth at the sectional.

GREENFIELD — The 2025 Greenfield-Central boys golf team may have graduated its No. 1 player, but according to head coach Cliff Henderson, the team enters the year in just as good, if not a better spot than last season. Henderson’s team returns plenty of golfers who saw regular time in last year’s lineup, including four of the five from the lineup that placed third at the sectional and qualified for the regional.
