Gila River Resorts & Casinos is looking to “push the boundaries” when it comes to sponsorships and has brought a third party to help identify new opportunities for the casino brand. The Valley gaming and hospitality brand announced March 26 it will work with Dallas-based Peak Strategic Partnerships to find and broker sponsorship opportunities for Gila River Resorts & Casinos. The companies claim this partnership is the first of its kind in the tribal gaming industry.

The Vig, a Phoenix-based restaurant concept that first opened in 2006, has signed on to open a new location in the 100-acre revitalization of the former PV Mall. The new location of The Vig will be the eighth opened by Genuine Concepts, the company behind The Vig and other concepts like The Little Woody, The Womack, The McMillan, Campo Italian Bistro & Bar, and The Genuine.

The final price tag for the renovations of Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale will end up being higher than expected. The arena, which was built to host an NHL team in the early 2000s, is getting a makeover intended to make it more conducive for concerts than sports. The Arizona Coyotes were booted as the building’s primary tenant in 2022.

The team behind Pita Jungle is set to introduce a new concept in the Valley before the end of the year that is meant to connect with a younger demographic as well as usher in the company’s new commercial real estate development strategy. Feta Cowboy, the new concept, is expected to have at least a soft opening before the end of 2024 in Tempe in the McClintock Fountains retail plaza on the northeast corner of Warner Road and McClintock Drive.

A luxurious members-only club will be opening in the Footprint Center thanks to a new partnership between the Phoenix Suns ownership and Major Food Group, the company behind eateries such as New York Italian-American restaurant Carbone. Suns owner Mat Ishbia on Nov. 20 announced the new members-only private dining club, which will be called the Ra Ra Room, and said it is expected to open by the end of the month.

PopStroke, a Florida-based golf entertainment concept with the backing of Tiger Woods, has proposed its third location in the Valley. There are plans for PopStroke to build the entertainment venue on 4.25 acres of vacant land near the SanTan Village shopping and entertainment center in Gilbert, south of Top Golf and west of Main Event. The Gilbert location, near Ray Road and SanTan Village Parkway, would differ from the ones in Glendale and Scottsdale because it would be indoors.

The latest airport lounge at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport opened Nov. 12 in Terminal 4’s Southwest Airlines concourse. The Chase Sapphire Lounge by The Club at PHX is in the newest concourse to open at Sky Harbor. The lounge has a ribbon window that offers panoramic views of the tarmac and features a centerpiece bar that serves craft cocktails.

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is not only pacing to have its busiest year ever in 2024, but the upcoming holiday travel season will also have more flights than ever before, according to data analyzed by the Business Journals from Cirium, an airline analytics company. In the final quarter of 2024, there are 56,076 total commercial aviation flights scheduled to take off from Sky Harbor, according to Cirium.

West77 Partners, a real estate investment and development firm based in Bellevue, Washington and Salt Lake City, has opened an office in Scottsdale as it plans on building several hotels in the Phoenix market in the next several years. The office will be home to West77’s development team as well as its affiliated general contracting company, Wasatch DC Builders. West77’s move is connected to the company’s plans to build up to 12 LivAway Suites extended stay hotels in the Valley.

Rusty Taco, a growing fast-casual chain based out of Dallas, already has a small presence in the Valley but has targeted Phoenix, and the whole state of Arizona, as a growth market. The Mexican restaurant is seeking new franchisees and is hoping its existing franchisee, Sonoran Restaurant Group, will gear up to find new locations in the Valley in the coming months.
