Greenhand DegreeThe Greenhand Degree is the first level of accomplishment in FFA. Members must learn the FFA creed and motto, describe the symbols of the FFA emblem and demonstrate knowledge of the history and operating procedures of the organization.

OAKLAND — The Garrett County Office of Emergency Management reported that the local Emergency Operations Center remained under a partial activation on Wednesday morning after heavy rains and flooding affected parts of the county on Tuesday. This means that select emergency operations center staff are notified and monitoring the current situation. Portions of neighboring counties were more severely effected, but several areas of Garrett County were identified for evacuation Tuesday night.

GRANTSVILLE — Grantsville Town Administrator Robin Jones has released the results of the town election held Tuesday, May 13, for three open council seats. Councilmembers elected were Adam Rounds, Mark Diehl and George Edwards. They will serve four-year terms. The votes were as follows: Adam Rounds, 60; Mark Diehl, 47; George Edwards, 45; Tom Sheaffer, 35; Aaron Formby, 28; and Melissa Frantz, 25. Doris Beal served as the supervisor for the election and judges were Judy Lawson and Cindy Thatcher.

OAKLAND — Garrett County Sheriff Bryson Meyers reported that the Garrett County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a theft of a 2024 Hustler, FASTRAK (60") 24HP Kawasaki Commercial zero turn lawn mower. The mower was stolen from Western Maryland Outdoor Power located along Garrett Highway between April 10 and 17. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 301-334-1911.
