OAKLAND — Bill Hentosh has been interested in photography for over 50 years since he borrowed his brother’s 35-mm camera and went to a park to take pictures of birds and landscapes. Encouragement from his mother helped to further ignite his passion for photography that has continued to grow. Recently at the Garrett County Arts Council’s Gallery Shop, where Hentosh sells some of his prints and cards, he took the time to give some of his tips for capturing the best shots of flowers and birds.

OAKLAND — Parts of the county were affected by a severe thunderstorm that moved east across the northernmost portion of Maryland on Saturday evening, April 19. Chris Strong, NWS Baltimore/Washington meteorologist, reported that preliminary information shows that extensive damage was caused by a severe west wind that accompanied the storm. All damage noted was blown towards the east.

OAKLAND — An Oakland woman has been arrested on a felony theft charge. According to Garrett County Sheriff Bryson Meyers, deputies responded to Walmart for a reported theft on April 21. Upon arrival, deputies located Jennie Rebecca Hesson, 47 years old, leaving the store with a shopping cart of stolen merchandise. Based on the investigation, deputies arrested Hesson and charged her with felony theft.

OAKLAND — Garrett County Sheriff Bryson Meyers reported a double fatality as the result of a head-on collision on April 18. According to the report, Garrett County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the area of Hutton Road near the intersection of Dilly Road around 2:25 p.m.Upon arrival, deputies located two vehicles, a Honda Civic and Ford F150, which had collided head-on.

OAKLAND — Maryland State Police at the McHenry Barrack are asking for the public’s assistance regarding a theft investigation. A trailer and lawn equipment were stolen from a local business. The truck appears to be an older model Chevy 2500, possibly 2012 to 2013, black in color and has a strobe/light bar in the grill and on the roof, as well as two metal beams in the bed and possibly a ladder rack. The trailer is a 2015 Homestead Trailer white in color bearing Maine Tag 2551065.
