MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WV News) — Gov. Patrick Morrisey on Thursday held a bill signing for a piece of legislation that imposes harsher penalties for drug crimes, particularly those involving the synthetic opioid fentanyl. Senate Bill 196, titled Lauren's Law, retooled much of the state's standing law regarding the possession, manufacture and sale of controlled substances, as well as laws pertaining to the transportation of controlled substances into the state and conspiracy to commit such crimes.

William Durnal, 60, of Elkins, was sentenced to 100 months in federal prison for methamphetamine possession and distribution, according to a release from the office of acting United States Attorney Randolph J. OAKLAND — Bill Hentosh has been interested in photography for over 50 years since he borrowed his brother’s 35-mm camera and went to a park to take pictures of birds and landscapes. Encouragement from his mother helped to further ignite his passion for photography that has continued to grow. Recently at the Garrett County Arts Council’s Gallery Shop, where Hentosh sells some of his prints and cards, he took the time to give some of his tips for capturing the best shots of flowers and birds.

OAKLAND — Parts of the county were affected by a severe thunderstorm that moved east across the northernmost portion of Maryland on Saturday evening, April 19. Chris Strong, NWS Baltimore/Washington meteorologist, reported that preliminary information shows that extensive damage was caused by a severe west wind that accompanied the storm. All damage noted was blown towards the east.
