In the nearly seven years since launching this series, I’ve written about more than 70 trails and parks within a day’s drive of San Antonio. Last month, I saw a social media post by the Great Springs Project, an initiative to build a more extensive trail network between Austin and San Antonio, about a new park opening in Comal County. This month, I thought I would check out a park I had never visited before on the Southwest Side, an area that could use more of them. The only other major park nearby is Pearsall Park, a former landfill that has some decent trails, a disc golf course and a brand-new bike park, among other features.

I got hopelessly lost the first time riding my mountain bike at O.P. Schnabel Park nearly nine years ago, ending up tangled in brush somewhere south of the park along the Leon Creek Greenway. I’ve learned to navigate the park better since then, and now I find it a shady natural oasis where I can lose my worries, if only for a little while. O.P. Schnabel is one of San Antonio’s large legacy North Side parks.

A debate over tax subsidies for hydrogen power is splitting energy companies, clean power advocates, and Congressional Democrats, with many lobbying to loosen the rules, including some companies advocating to allow more fossil fuel-based hydrogen to qualify for “clean energy” tax breaks.
