RICHMOND, Va. — Richmond Animal Care and Control (RACC) Director Christie Chipps-Peters is reminding pet owners about Virginia’s tethering laws during extreme weather. HB 1552/SB 272 deems tethering an animal outside without adequate shelter if the animal is not safe from predators or is not well suited to tolerate its environment. An animal control officer must inspect a pet's individual circumstances to determine if the conditions are safe.

JUNIATA COUNTY, Pa. — Multiple crews responded to a fire at a manufacturing facility in Juniata County. In a Facebook post, Mifflintown Hose Co. #1 said it sent mutual aid crews to assist Friendship Fire Company #1 with a fire in the dry receiving area of Energex American just before 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 19. Crews worked to extinguish the fire for about two hours and there were no reported injuries.

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. — Police in Lancaster County are trying to identify a man accused of stealing more than $1,100 in meat and seafood from a local Wegmans. The Manheim Township Police said the incident occurred at the Wegmans at 2000 Crossings Boulevard just after 11:40 a.m. on Monday, June 16. Police said the man left the store with the items in the cart without paying and left in the pictured white Ford Explorer.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Pa. — A Franklin County man faces charges after reportedly sexually assaulting a minor for multiple years. Court documents state that Roy Leon Green, 78, of Waynesboro, was charged with unlawful contact with a minor, statutory sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, indecent assault of a person less than 13 years of age, corruption of minors and sexual assault.

RICHMOND, Va. — Dozens gathered outside St. John’s Episcopal Church in Richmond’s Church Hill for their 5th annual Juneteenth Celebration Thursday morning. Benita Bazemore has attended the event that commemorates the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States four out of five years. “I just enjoy coming out. Proud to be here and glad to have the opportunity to come back,” Bazemore explained.
