SPRINGFIELD — Illinois lawmakers are one step closer to banning carbon injections over a massive source of drinking water for Central Illinois, but some of its supporters are raising concerns about a change in the language. The Illinois Senate on Thursday unanimously passed Senate Bill 1723, which would ban carbon sequestration activity — the process of capturing and storing carbon by injecting it underground — within an area that "overlies, underlies, or passes through" the Mahomet Aquifer.

SPRINGFIELD — In remarks at an event kicking off the annual lobby day for the state's agriculture industry in the Illinois Capitol, state Sen. Andrew Chesney, R-Freeport, expressed delight in the generally bipartisan nature of legislative initiatives pertaining to farmers. SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois House on Monday approved legislation that would authorize the Bloomington-Normal Water Reclamation District to sell treated wastewater to private businesses within 50 miles of the Twin Cities. House Bill 1538, sponsored by state Rep. Sharon Chung, D-Bloomington, would also allow BNWRD to accept wastewater for treatment from these outside entities. It passed with no opposition and now heads to the Senate for consideration.

The Rock Island County Democrats held their annual fundraiser tonight. Among the speakers: Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton, Rep. Robin Kelly and Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi. I’m told all three were well-received by the 300+ in attendance. Sen. Dick Durbin also appeared via recorded video.
