The city says a contractor working for FDOT mistakenly struck the gas line. The fire department says that caused the gas to spew out of the four-inch main. Fifty-four residents from the Wesley Haven Villa were evacuated because of the gas leak.

Last week, Clerk of Court Pam Childers announced she was placing a hold on all discretionary fund spending by county commissioners to ensure taxpayer money is being spent properly. This pause has caused the Pensacola City Council to look at their policies. "You're giving contributions for churches for their picnics or something they're having, I think that's a violation," said Childers.

PENSACOLA, Fla. -- Animal shelters across Northwest Florida are at or over capacity. Each day, shelters are working to find homes for animals as the number of strays going into shelters continues to climb. Now, some shelters are calling for funding to increase their capacity or change county laws to help combat the stray problems. "We get over 100 calls a day for service," said John Robinson, director of Escambia County Animal Welfare.

BREWTON, Ala. -- One of Brewton's largest employers is closing. The 'Grede' manufacturing plant announced it's halting its operations at the Brewton factory and laying off 220 workers. The plant has been open in Brewton for more than 50 years. The community said this is news they didn't want to hear and many locals WEAR News spoke with said they're sad to see so many jobs lost in this community. For more than 50 years, this steel plant has provided hundreds of jobs to local workers.

PENSACOLA, Fla. -- An error at Baptist Hospital delayed the direct deposits to many of their employees Friday. Friday morning, WEAR News received messages and emails from hospital employees saying they were not paid. The hospital sent a memo to employees Friday saying there was an error and it was being corrected. Baptist expects all funds to be paid to employees by the end of the day. As for the error, WEAR News asked hospital officials exactly what happened.
