A new paid leave program for City of Denver workers is causing "unintended consequences" at the city's 911 call answering center, with overall leave usage among 911 call takers shooting up 334% in 2024, the first year of the Denver Care Bank program. That's according to Andrew Dameron, the director of the 911 center. "When you provide benefits to employees that allows them to take more time off, then there are costs on the other end," said Dameron.

Janel Forde, Denver Mayor Mike Johnston's Chief Operating Officer, has left the Mayor's office and taken a job with the University of Colorado. Neka Sunlin estimates she has checked out about 1,000 Front Range sprinkler systems in the past 9 years, and invariably finds inefficiencies in the residential sprinkler systems that are costing homeowners water and money. Sunlin works with a nonprofit called Resource Central which says in the last 20 years, its Colorado sprinkler system assessments have helped save nearly 2 billion gallons of water. "Saving water is a great way to save money, too," said Resource Central's CEO, Neal Lurie.
