NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — While Norfolk State’s baseball team has struggled to get wins this season, the Spartans did get a chance to hail a milestone achievement. Justin Journette, a hard-swinging right fielder from Richmond, broke NSU’s 36-year-old home run record by belting the 36th long ball of his career. The record now stands at 37, as Journette continues to add to his total. “Records are meant to be broken,” Spartans head coach Keith Shumate said.

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – The Hampton Pirates (HU) wrapped up their spring practices Saturday afternoon at Armstrong Stadium. (WAVY) – Sun Belt Player of the Year Mike Green was selected in the second round of the NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens with the 59th overall pick. The 6-foot-4, 250 pound Green helped lead Lafayette High School in Williamsburg to a state championship and began his college career at Virginia. After transferring to Marshall, Green blossomed. He led all of FBS with 17 sacks and was second in the nation with 23 tackles for loss. Some projections had Green going in the first round.

NORFOLK (WAVY) – Old Dominion held its annual spring game scrimmage on Saturday at SB Ballard Stadium. On an 80 degree day and under sunny, blue skies, coach Ricky Rahne got a final look at his team before summer practices in a few months. Quarterback Colton Joseph took reps with the first team offense and made some plays with his legs, but his most impressive play was a long pass down the sideline to 6-foot-3 JUCO wide receiver Ja’Cory Thomas which led to the first touchdown of the afternoon.
