In the mood for hot pots or loaded tots? Either way, you’re in for a clean spot. Food inspectors served a ramen shop and a sports bar “excellent” ratings last week on a brief tour of five Maricopa businesses. Pinal County Health Department inspectors first visited Bashas’ sushi bar and deli April 8, where they found no violations and rated them separately as “excellent.” It was the fifth perfect rating in a row for the deli and eighth for the sushi bar.
Car crashes into light pole in the Meadows, flees the scene

A silver sedan reportedly collided with a light pole in the Maricopa Meadows before fleeing the scene this morning. Maricopa police and fire were dispatched to the crash site on Hogenes Boulevard between Rainbow Drive and Orchid Avenue at 9:40 a.m., according to Phoenix Regional Dispatch. Ten minutes later, a city-owned utility vehicle was sitting next to the downed light pole. Also downed in the area were a large number of tree branches.

Pacana Park got a new splash of color today. Casa Grande-based artist Mauriel “Mory” Morejon is painting a new mural on the 200-square-foot wall around the fitness court, which will bring vibrant colors of blooming cacti and a native Gila monster just across from the park’s basketball courts. Color is something Morejon says adds good feelings and positivity to the area. “It’s part of our life. The little kids, the first story they have is color,” Morejon said.

Flowering cacti won’t be the only things found at the Desert Plant Collection nursery in Thunderbird Farms this weekend. Eggs will be cropping up around the nursery as a part of an Adult Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday. The first ever egg hunt at the nursery is aimed at adults due to the prickly nature of the property, where more 60 hidden eggs will soon be hidden. The eggs contain vouchers for free cacti, agave, bushes and trees.

Maricopa’s first Walgreens store opened at the corner of John Wayne Parkway and Smith-Enke Road in early 2004. Death of Desert Cedars mother and son was murder-suicide

The mother and son found dead in a Desert Cedars home earlier this week apparently died in a murder-suicide. Diane Zeitler, 68, died of a shotgun wound to the head in a homicide, according to the Pinal County Medical Examiner’s Office. The examiners also determined that her son, 40-year-old Andre Zeitler, died by suicide by firing a shotgun into his mouth.
Pickup truck crashes into Acacia Crossings home

Police are investigating a crash that caused heavy damage to an Acacia Crossings home tonight. Maricopa police and fire crews responded to the home on the corner of Ancon Avenue and Gavilan Drive at 6:43 p.m., according to Phoenix Regional Dispatch. A dark in color Chevrolet Colorado, with a Utah license plate, was seen crashed into the corner of the home, colliding with the framing just right of the garage door.

Another new grocery store to be built east of the main strip? It seems so. That’s the anchor of a retail development working its way through City Hall right now. The San Travasa Retail Center was proposed for the northwest corner of Farrell and White-and-Parker Roads by Phoenix-based Barclay Group on Friday. The 50-acre retail center would be built in two phases. The first 27-acre phase would be anchored by a 121,000-square-foot grocery store with an associated fuel station in the parking lot.
