A large body camera production YouTube channel released footage yesterday showing the arrest of a Maricopa mom accused of “disciplining” her son with baseball bat beatings and threatening him with a knife after he didn’t do the dishes. The July arrest of Homestead resident Gloria Cobbs, 56, was an interesting choice of video to post on Mother’s Day. Regardless, it was a crime that it made InMaricopa’s list of the top 7 most insane reasons to threaten murder last year.

A construction worker was hospitalized this morning after being hit by a car in Amarillo Creek, a residential neighborhood 1 mile south of the city limits near Papago Road. Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, Maricopa Police Department and Maricopa Fire/Medical Department responded just before 10 a.m. to a reported car crash on the 47000 block of Mellen Lane. Medics on the scene tended to a construction worker for Desert Vista Inc., a Glendale stucco contractor, lying behind his company vehicle.

Being a mom is no easy feat. Moms are important and deserve to be recognized, hence, the annual tradition of the Best Mom InMaricopa contest sponsored by Karsten’s Maricopa ACE Hardware. Fifteen Maricopa moms were nominated by husbands, kids or friends. A panel of judges voted and three of the many deserving mothers were recognized as the “best” this Mother’s Day.

A Maricopa art teacher got a sweet surprise for his class Thursday. Heritage Academy teacher Carlos Jimenez and his class were awarded free coffee from Dunkin’ Donuts for a whole year. As part of the surprise, Dunkin’ also gifted Jiminez with custom donuts and an in-classroom party in Maricopa — Munchkins for the kids, coffee for the teachers.

FLORENCE — The Maricopa Meadows woman accused of major fraud by the U.S. Department of Justice pleaded not guilty this morning to other fraud charges in Pinal County Superior Court. Katrina Woods, 33, is accused of stealing a Florida woman’s identity and using it to rent her Maricopa home.
